Have you been thinking about a big change lately? Going for a big chop or a new hair colour? Make sure you set aside some extra time for a consultation! This process, which breaks down the services you want, is so important to ensure you and your stylist are on the same page! Wondering what you can do in preparation for your next appointment? Follow a few of these tips to make sure your appointment goes smoothly!

Bring Photos

A picture speaks a thousand words! Make sure the photo you bring actually represents your hair type. This is especially true for cuts. Your hair type (curly, straight, thick etc.) will also help you and your stylist make sure the new look with work for you!

Watch out for doctored or edited photos

Please remember that most photos on Instagram and Pinterest have been edited in some way! Lighting, enhancing and filters make the colours look different in pictures. If you have found a photo of a colour you like, remember that it might not be 100% possible to achieve. Be open to suggestions from your stylist – it’s their job to know hair so they’re going to give you sound, expert advice.

Plan a Budget

Go in and talk to your stylist ahead of time to discuss the cost of what you want and your budget. Strand tests can also help to get an idea of what the true results will be on your hair. Some colouring services may take multiple sessions to achieve what you want, so plan ahead to work out all the details.

The best advice I can give you is to be open and trusting! If you are with a stylist you love, then this should be easy. If you are trying out a new stylist, or going to see a hair student, be open to the process. Understand that in any situation, a thorough consult will help you get that great end result!
