The theme of fashion class 143’s Fashion Show Porcelain is dolls. To incorporate that into the looks for Spring/Summer 2014 can be hard but with a few simple styling tips and techniques anyone can bring this trend into their own wardrobe.
Dolls and tights
Stockings, tights, knee-highs, pantyhose, whatever you call them, we’re seeing them more and more in our local stores. With bright hues, bold prints, and embellishments like in Valentino AW13 show, they translate to more wearable fashion by styling an outfit with a colour blocking theme or all one colour with the tights as the stand out piece. Tights are fairly priced and a great way to add glamour.
Dolls in skirts
Another cute trend that hasn’t really disappeared is the A-line and Figure Skater skirt. No matter how you wear these styles they will always be a classic item in anyone’s wardrobe. These skirts can look really flattering on almost everyone. Make it high-waisted and it can be super flirty and great for the spring and summer. We’re loving this trend because it adds an element of femininity.
Socks with sandals
Yes! I said it and it’s a trend this Spring/Summer. It’s not what you think, the usual birkenstocks with white sports socks but fun sheer ankle socks with a fun platform sandal. Just like how you used to rock it when you were little. Pair with a baby doll dress and you’re ready to go out.
The Porcelain fashion show debuts on Tuesday, March 25th 2014 at Performance Works on Granville Island, doors open at 6pm and the show begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at JCI (220 Cambie) for $20 or $25 at the door. All net proceeds will go to Covenant House.
