Hair and makeup is what ties every element of the Dystopia fashion show together. After a series of classes, mood boards, and inspirations, we finally picked the right paint to fill the bare canvas of the models’ faces, not to mention enough hairspray to last a lifetime.
Dystopia essentially reflects a vision of a post apocalyptic society that rediscovers modern beauty within clothing, hair and makeup. Hair stylists Katie Sullivan and Simren Dhadwar were able to execute our atomic bomb inspiration within the teasing and texture of the hair. They began with curling small pieces of the hair to deliver texture then backcombed the bottoms of the models hair to give a “birds nest” effect while leaving the top of the hair very sleek and clean.
Makeup artists Katie Sullivan and Lnielle Joy gave the girls both an edge and elegance. The Dystopia signature makeup style is an ombre black-to-plum coloured lip, bold eyebrows, a smokey eye shadow, and skin glowing brighter then the northern lights.
It is clear that our class is inspired by the beauty of darkness. I’m extremely pleased with our photoshoot. Can you imagine how great our fashion show is going to be?
