Every good fashionista knows the key to a successful outfit lies in your ability to accessorize. Putting on a successful fashion show is no different.
The aesthetic of our show, Dystopia, draws from both industrial and earthy elements and this will be equally true with the accessories we choose. Our aim for styling lies somewhere in the realm of “Couture Grunge” and to achieve this we’ll have to use accessories to amp up classic street style looks. From necklaces to bracelets to chains and more, there will be no shortage of adornment.
Accessories will be compiled from our own personal stashes as well as from the assistance of local vendors. In addition, some of us have chosen to make our own. If I know one thing about my class, it is that there is no deficit of creativity and talent and I have no doubt this will be apparent in the pieces we create ourselves.
A beautiful accessory doesn’t always have to come with a hefty price tag. Industrial elements will play a role as well. You can expect the likes of rubber and metal turned into decoration. The introduction of these elements into our styling will tie directly into our staging, bringing our theme full circle.
DYSTOPIA the fashion show happens June 16th, 2014 at Performance Works on Granville Island, doors: 6:30pm, show: 7:00pm. Tickets are available at JCI (220 Cambie) for $20 or $25 at the door. All net proceeds go to Covenant House.
