One of the most important parts in creating the Dystopian world for our audience, is the use of visuals. The visual display helps to set the tone for the guests and really draws them into the post apocalyptic disaster that is our fashion show. Flooding the stage with old tires, book cases, scrap metal, chicken wire, and more, one cannot help but feel the devastation of what was once a normal town.
Sourcing the props from junk yards, construction companies, and even Craig’s List, together Class 144 has drawn from both natural and industrial elements. This dark, post riot theme will have the models emerging from the wreckage and weaving through the rubble; dressed as grunge survivors, only to be unmasked to reveal the beauty behind the darkness. The eerie atmosphere will also created with dim lighting that continues beyond the stage alone. The fashion show has a continuous theme from the styling to that staging that will leave the audience with chills.
DYSTOPIA the fashion show happens June 16th, 2014 at Performance Works on Granville Island, doors: 6:30pm, show: 7:00pm. Tickets are available at JCI (220 Cambie) for $20 or $25 at the door. All net proceeds go to Covenant House.
