DID YOU KNOW…that 80-85% of skin aging is caused by exposure to the sun?

UV rays reach the skin in 2 different forms- UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are also known as ‘aging rays’ and contribute up to 95% of the sun’s UV radiation. They reach deep into the dermis layer of the skin, weakening collagen and elastin fibers which causes wrinkles and sagging tissue. UVB rays are known as the ‘burning rays’. They have a shorter wavelength than UVA rays, however they are stronger and more damaging to the skin. It is the UVB rays that cause our skin to tan, but also burn, age, and in some cases, melanoma (the most dangerous forms of skin cancer).

Sun protection does more than protect the skin- it defends cells from radiation, cell death, tissue breakdown, and aging. JCI Body Spa Esthetics students always recommend full-spectrum sunscreens to protect the skin from both UVA & UVB exposure.
