For over a decade John Casablancas Fashion and Design Program Alumni have been producing two Fashion Show’s a year to raise funds for Covenant House BC. This year, JCI is presenting two collections created by the Fashion and Design Alumni, called Asylum & Commute. Here is all you need to know about this year’s John Casablancas Institute Fashion Show.
Last year , JCI raised $10,000 to help BC’s homeless and at risk youth and in the hopes of setting new goals, JCI is looking to beat last year’s raised amount and support Covenant House in the wonderful work it does.
ABOUT COVENANT HOUSE BC
Covenant House fosters and serves all youth experiencing homelessness. They provide a safe haven, nourishing meals, clean clothes and medical attention in order to help you adults stabilize and build a positive future for themselves.
“Covenant House Vancouver offers a clear exit from life on the street to homeless youth. Our carefully designed Continuum of Care includes a Drop-In Centre, a 59-bed Residential Crisis Program, our Rights of Passage Transitional Living Program, Mental Health Clinicians and Life Skills training.” – Covenant House BC
At John Casablancas Institute we are not only passionate about giving a good education but also helping our future citizens and communities. That’s why we are combining our two passions by creating an event that will allow us to give our students a chance to create their collection while also helping the community they live in.
This year’s Fashion Show will take place on the 24th of July at the Pipe Shop in North Vancouver. This venue was originally built in the 1940’s, and was once known as the Pipe-fitters building, where all the pipe systems were laid out for new Ships. “This space is a blank canvas, which allows for each event to be 100% personalized” which serves perfectly for this year’s two Fashion Shows – Asylum and Commute.
The Asylum Collection, presents the transition between accepting mental health and growing from it. The collection is set to showcase the process between individual struggles sing the fashion outlet of the show.
The Commute Collection, has placed the hustle and bustle of commuting on the runway. “We are inspired by the elements of style conglomerated in one space. Especially on transit where we see different types of people with different styles commuting all at once.” – Madison McKaily (Designer of the Commute PR Stunt Dress, shown below)
