Fall Makeup Newsletter

Fall has arrived and it has brought many things to celebrate…

Boots, hats, sweaters and “pumpkin-spice everything” are just a few of Fall’s amazing things. With each new season we are given the chance to renew our closets, makeup and even our career opportunities. This Fall is no exception. Here is a look at makeup trends for Fall 2015.

Fall 2015 Marsala Pantone 2015 Color of the Year

Marsala: Pantone Colour of the Year 2015

Marsala. Seen everywhere on runways during Fashion weeks around the world and named as the Pantone Colour of the Year, this is a shade worth trying out. Perhaps most popular in lipstick shades, this warm, reddish-brown shade is found everywhere from fashion to makeup.

Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury is a world-famous makeup artist known for her work on Fashion Week runways with the likes of Tom Ford and every other major designer. Most recently, Tilbury has launched a line of self-named cosmetics that are now sold at Holt Renfrew. This is good news for us as makeup artists, as Charlotte Tilbury herself will be making an appearance on October 29th at Holt Renfrew Vancouver, and JCI makeup artists are on the guestlist. If you would like to attend this free event, please email Spaces are limited.

Of all the fantastic things that Fall brings, perhaps the best is Halloween. Every makeup artist waits for this special time of year to arrive to capitalize on their creativity. At JCI, we are excited to be joining the cast and crew of City TV’s Breakfast Television for the 6th year straight! Each year we join this fun morning cast to demonstrate makeup techniques on air and turn them into their Halloween characters for the show. Be sure to tune in on Friday, October 30 from 6:30am-9:00am to see our team at work!

Halloween 2015 Face Chart Ideas

Halloween Makeup

With Halloween on the horizon, it is time for you to get to work! There is no excuse for any makeup artist to remain unemployed during this busy month of makeup. Remember, clients can’t book your services if they don’t know you exist, so get busy showing the world what you can do. First things first, amp up the social media. Post examples of hot Halloween makeup looks on Instagram, Facebook, etc. This is the best free advertising you could ask for, so put it to work for you. Post and update often to create traffic and promote the sharing of your pages. Video tutorials are hot, hot, hot! Create some great Halloween step-by-step videos on yourself and post to your social media pages or YouTube. This gives people confidence in your work. Post ads on Craigslist under “services offered”, and be sure to attach some photos of what you can do. People love to shop for services on Craigslist, but no one wants to consider buying something without seeing it first. You can easily charge $50-100 per makeup application depending on complexity. Be sure to charge for add-ons such as prosthetics, contacts, teeth, etc.

Happy Fall to you all!
