A RET•RO•GRADE Success

The fashion students behind RET•RO•GRADE are at once relieved that the process of producing a fashion show is over and proud of their accomplishment. A unique show with a strong concept and a cohesive presentation, RET•RO•GRADE featured the styling and designs of many of the soon-to-be grads. Photographer Emily Cook snapped a pic of a model wearing an outfit by Meredith Lougheed that captures the look of the whole production. Congratulations FAD group 141 on an amazing show! ...

How to Destroy: a RET•RO•GRADE DIY

While designing for RET•RO•GRADE I found it very hard for me to come up with garments that looked destroyed and good. It was difficult at first but with the help of some good tunes and mountains of different fabrics I got inspired and started working. You’re going to need a few things like the jeans, a marker, some scissors and either a sewing machine or just...

A Picture of RET.RO.GRADE

On July 2nd, 2013 JC Institute fashion students held their RET.RO.GRADE publicity stunt. Two immaculate models that looked like identical replicas of each other paraded around the streets of Gastown, through Waterfront up Cordova and down to Coal Harbor. With their long dark straight hair slicked back, their dark shiny royal blue lipstick and their gorgeously torn dresses made by JCI fashion student Carolyn McCauley; these striking models grabbed the attention of not only handsome young men but children, tourists, mothers, business women, grandparents and mor...

Construction of Deconstruction for RET•RO•GRADE

Visual display is a crucial part in the story telling and setting of the mood for any fashion show; it can help exemplify the designer’s vision and redefine their collection. To tell the story of RET•RO•GRADE, based on a futuristic society that became deconstructed as time goes on, our overall theme had to be consistent throughout the whole production. At first combining the two concepts of futurism and destruction seemed to be quite the visual challenge. After many ideas, the melding began by creating a colossal center piece in th...
