Yes, Gen-Zers have made it extremely difficult for the marketing world. The ‘Talking Stock With Teens’ survey by Piper Jaffray is a semi-annual research project that surveys thousands of U.S. teenagers. This survey shows research on a few things that Gen-Z prefers, from restaurants to fashion.
Food is definitely where Gen-Zers spend most of their money on. Chick-fil-A comes in lead, followed by Starbucks. This generation desires more of snacking types of foods— they would much rather build a meal from a variety of appetizers, rather than have a full meal itself.
In-store shopping is still a trend for Gen-Zers, although they spend the majority of their time shopping on Amazon. Amazon takes the lead as a favorite website to visit, and fashion brands Nike, Adidas, Vans, Lululemon and even Crocs are some must-shop places for this generation. With Amazon in the lead, Nike comes in second place, followed by American Eagle, Urban Outfitters and lastly PacSun.
When it comes to handbags, Michael Kors is the #1 place that Gen-Zers will spend their money, followed by Kate Spade in second, Coach in third place, and lastly Louis Vuitton and Gucci, which are almost tied for last.
Beauty is a growing category and Gen-Zers leave all their faith in Sephora and Ulta. The top beauty brands that this generation buys are (from most to least favorite): Tarte, Too-Faced, MAC Cosmetics, Maybelline, and Anastasia Beverley Hills.
Instagram or Snapchat?
With the latest iPhone in hand, Gen-Z scrolls through their Snapchat feed more than Instagram. Although Instagram has definitely taken over Snapchat this year, Snapchat is still the preferred app for this generation.
