Last night we had the pleasure of attending Shop West 4th‘s Fashion on 4th event to kick off Vancouver Fashion Week in style! The evening began with a talk by Zara Durrani about fall trends. Her looks were so on point that we couldn’t help but share the advice with you:
Top colours for fall fashion
Light pink will be taking over from the typical fall colours we see every year. It can be worn in one focal piece or in monotone from head to toe. If you’re after something bolder, pops of colour (especially bright red) are a great accent in shoes and jackets this season. Many of the models had a bright coat or boots on – it looked amazing and really stood out. Zara emphasized that a surprising hit of colour shows your personality and is the easiest way to make an outfit your own.
Best autumn accessories
Many of the looks included hats, which are a great way to keep you warm and instantly style up a casual look. Zara’s favourites were wool, and included both floppy boho and more retro inspired shapes. She did not shy away from colour here either, which really brightened things up. It was a balmy September night, but we were reminded of the versatility of woolen tights to bring any outfit into cooler weather. Another great tip she offered up was pairing a chunky knit sweater with your summer dresses to get more wear out of them. Our favourite example of this was a tight dress with a longer chunky knit cardigan and flat boots. So effortless!
Winning seasonal patterns and textures
Leather and faux leather are heavy hitters this season, and we learned how to make them office appropriate with a longer a-line skirt. There was a lot of great advice about choosing items that can be styled for both work and play, and this was a great example! There is also focus on plaid this fall as usual. Zara mixed it up by showing us an adorable retro-inspired plaid dress as an unexpected way to get in on the trend. A plaid blanket scarf is another cozy way to incorporate the look into your wardrobe.
